The
Last week during a thunderstorm, we had gathered in front of the TV to watch a new fall show. Actually, we were looking very much forward to it as it featured one of our favorite action hero actors. As the wind blew, and the trees swayed, the lights flickered on an off for a bit. Then the Tivo box went out because of the power interruption and had to be restarted. We probably lost 10 minutes of show time because of the reboot.
Now being without power momentarily is not such a big deal. It is no great inconvenience to have to reboot a Tivo device either. However, if you are considering remodeling your home you are most likely concerned with having a safe and comfortable home for your family and yourself.
If those are your priorities, doesn't it make sense to do something about the frequent power outages that keep happening all around Chicago? Our uh oh moment turned into an ah-ha moment for us. Here we are sitting around watching a beautiful flat screen TV, with our AC on, our microwave popping popcorn, while our kids are doing their homework online, and we came to the realization that if the power went out for a long time, we would be really inconvenienced.
Inconveniences are one thing, but if you have young children, you really don't want them to be walking around the house with candles. Flashlights only last so long and it is hard to do homework by flashlight. So much of what we do revolves around computers and they don't operate without power.
We have a small fortune invested in systems in our house to protect us and to keep us comfortable and entertained. None of those systems work without electricity. When we remodel our home next, we will get a home generator
There is nothing like feeling totally helpless when the power is out for hours or days and it seems as if the situation is getting worse, not better.
